Funny Jack Stuff

1. I put him down for a nap the other day and everything went quiet on the monitor. Then I heard this strange noise. This went on for a few minutes so I went upstairs to investigate and the little man was on his belly, in his pack ‘n play, with his face about an inch from the side and he was stratching the weird mesh-like fabric of the side of the pack ‘n play with his finger (the strange noise). When he saw me, he started laughing histarically. What a kid.
2. He has learned to do the zerbert (whatever this word is… you know the raspberry thing that people do with their lips) thing. He does it as often as possible. As you may recall, I usually bring him into our bed when he wakes up at about six in the morning for an extra hour of sleep. Lately I have been waking up to him making the zerbert noise an inch from my face. Surprisingly, being the non-morning person that I am, I love waking up to this noise.
3. If he doesn’t wake me up with the zerbert noise he wakes me up by grabbing my nose with his tiny little five month old hands with the unbelievably razor sharp finger nails. Ouch. But funny, none the less.
4. When I finish feeding him his rice cereal I usually wipe his face off with his bib to get all of the cereal off before I wipe it with a wet paper towel to get all of the sticky off. Anyway, the other day I finished feeding him (while I was feeding him we were watching the Today show… I know bad habits starting early) and I looked over at him after listening to the weather for the day and he had already wiped his own face off with his bib. I’m totally serious. Maybe it was a fluke… or maybe we have another Uncle Adam on our hands here.
5. Sometimes when he is overtired and I put him down for a nap, he will grab Ralphie and drape him over his face. Then he will immediately fall asleep. It is soooo funny.

Studio 60: I’m really into this show. Everything is good about it except this whole relationship between Matthew Perry (MP) and Sarah Paulson. First of all, what 30-something aged woman is named Harriet? The name is the first downfall of the character. And what is going on with the whole Christian aspect with her character? I wasn’t all that blown away by their intro to the first show – the whole song and dance routine. Not that funny. And of course, Harriet is front and center. I love Amanda Peet, and have since Saving Silverman. I’m so glad that she is getting into something big. And who doesn’t love MP & Bradley Whitford.
Grey’s Anatomy: Ok, so why haven’t we addressed the situation with Birk yet? Have we all forgotten about the fact that we were left hanging on whether or not he would be able to use his hand again? And Meredith. Stop whining. And choose Derek. I mean for Pete’s sake, he is McDreamy. Besides that, the vet has way too much baggage. Even more than Derek. And I like to see Addison all in a tizzy. Cheating whore.
Lost: What’s the deal? October? And then a three month hiatus after the first month? Is this rumor true? Or is my memory exaggerating?
Desperate Housewives: I have a feeling that this season is going to be a little more like season one. At this point though everything is making way too much sense. Why exactly are Gabriel & Carlos getting divorced? Didn’t she give him permission to cheat? What is wrong with him? The maid?? If she would have talked to me that way while she was sitting in my bed (the whole pickle situation) I would have laid down the law – I don’t care if she is carrying my baby or not. What is different about Eddie? She looks different to me. I’m not sure how they are going to cover up Marcia Cross’ pregnancy.

Playdate

Jack had his first official playdate over the weekend. I know, I’m a super-dork, but it was pretty cute. It was with the neighbors across the street. We had lunch (well, I had lunch) and Jack spit up on their rug about a half a dozen times and slobbered all over Jayden’s toys. It was awesome. Luckily, Jayden’s mommy is a lot like me and isn’t too grossed out by other kids slobber and puke and doesn’t feel the need to sterilize all the toys before and after we play with them. Not that there is anything wrong with that… I mean, I’m all about stopping the spread of the plague and all, I just think that some moms take it all to a whole new level with the purell etc.
Jayden is two months older than Jack, but is sweet little thing and is so gentle and adorable with Jack. They were too funny to watch – all about investigating each other. She just wanted to pat his big, white, bald head. And he just wanted to chew on everything in sight.
After lunch Heather (Jayden’s mom) came over to check out the new jogger stroller and showed me how to adjust the canopy (I can’t believe I didn’t figure that one out on my own – if the manual would have had more information other than order forms for all the other stupid accessories to go along with it, I probably would have figured it out on my own). So our jog/walk went much better today. I think I ran all of five minutes of the 45 minutes we were out. It’s a start.

EZ and I are determined to do a 5K sometime in the near future… although I’m not sure when because he is so busy with work, I’m not sure when he is going to find the time to start training. Me on the other hand. I have plenty of time to “train”. And we just got a new jogger stroller. Which Jack absolutely hates. So as you can imagine, jogging/walking is great fun. I’m sure my neighbors think I am torturing the poor kid. I’m not sure what it is about the stroller, really, but I’m guessing it is the lack of sun protection. And I think the last time I took him out he got a little sunblock in his eye. :( I know, terrible mother. The weather has been so nice lately it just seems criminal not to take full advantage of it. That and I am desperate to get in better shape. I’ve lost the baby weight (here I go jinxing myself – I’ll put on five this weekend for that one), but just can’t seem to find that old body of mine. I’m not sure what’s happened (uh, hello, I think it was that baby 5 months ago…) but the area from my belly button to my knees is just not what I want it to be. So I’m on a quest to be in good shape and be healthy. We’ll see how it goes with the nightly glass of wine and bowl of ice cream, the weekend festivals and long elaborate date nights consisting of plenty of food, wine, and of course dessert!

Weight Update

I took the little guy in on Tuesday because he was feeling a little under the weather on Monday – I thought his acid reflux was getting worse but by Tuesday he was a totally different baby so the doctor thought it may have been a stomach bug. Yuck. Poor kid. Anyway, he seems to be feeling much better now. They weighed him while we were at the doctor’s and he is currently 16 lbs.! Boy oh boy is he getting big! He’s like this little person now. It’s crazy. Kind of makes me a little sad.

Laugh Out Loud

Some mornings I just wake up with a song in my head. I’m not sure what triggers these things in me. Maybe an email from the day before or a conversation with the hubby. Who knows? Anyway, I woke up on Saturday morning…”She’s a very freaky girl…” yeah, all day long. As I was getting ready for date night I turned on the radio… “Super Freak, Super Freak, Super Freak…”.
Dinner and a movie, the standard for date night. There’s a new theater nearby that caters to adults – no not that kind of theater… it mainly plays independent films, with a few mainstream shows every now and then. Anyway, it is not the teenage mecca that the movie theater at the other end of our part of town is. Sooooo, dinner was good, but not the MHOP (no, I’m not talking about IHOP), followed by Little Miss Sunshine. All I have to say is Laugh Out Loud.
What is it about Steve Carrell? I was laughing and he wasn’t even doing anything. He’s just funny. I was laughing so loud it reminded me of when I was in high school and my mom would scold me because I was laughing too loud. I didn’t really care though. Definitely one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. I love, love, loved it.
