We made it back safely from the frozen tundra that I call home!  I’ll have the whole week-long-Christmas-extravaganza story in a few days, after we get back into the swing of things around here.  Until then enjoy a few random photos from the last week or so.

Drilling for Gold

Jack got a drill (a fake one) for Christmas.  Just what every man wants for Christmas.  So he can pick his nose with something besides his finger…

Digging for Gold

just like this.

A great distraction from the nose picking.

So tonight instead of getting wasted and driving drunk, we are going to watch Jack jump around in this – his gift from Gavin (aka Toots, my bff’s son), eat pizza (because it is our last pig-fest of the year… and for quite a while after all of the gorging we did over the holidays), and drink alcoholic beverages until 10pm, when we’ll most likely will fall asleep on the couch watching John and Kate Plus 8.  Sweet.

Piano Man

Happy New Year!

YIKES!  $19.50, and I’ve got a crappy photo of Jack freaking out.  Mine turned out much better (even though he’s still freaking out)… but I couldn’t take mine unless I bought theirs.  Poor kid.  At least the guy was nice about it.  If the line weren’t so long I would have taken one with him myself.  hehe

Feelin’ Groovy

Hello Mama!

Somebody is feeling better!

Woo Hoo! Crazy BABY!

He’s back to his usual running full speed self.

Like the new haircut?

Ok, so not much to report over here… Jack is feeling better and I had to show off the new haircut.  Stay tuned… we’re actually going to visit Santa later this week and I’ll post pictures.  I can’t wait to see how this goes.

Why must I have absolutely zero patience every 28 days?  And be overcome with the insatiable need to eat everything in sight (including that nutella, last night, that had a sell by date of 2006)??

Why can’t my damn US magazine come on time?  Seriously, the week before last I got last Friday and I still haven’t gotten last Friday’s.  So something tells me that today’s won’t come today.  And neither will last week’s.

Why is it in the mid-70’s in mid-December??  Why?!?  AND why am I surprised?!?  It happens every year!  It’s the holiday season and everyone else in the country (well, almost) is experiencing a ginormous blizzard and we are sweating.  I’m sweating and my windows are open and it’s hot in the house (and seriously, I WILL NOT TURN ON THE AIR CONDITIONING, for the love of the tiny infant baby Jesus in the manger, because it is DECEMBER) and how do you make Christmas cookies when it’s hot in the house??

Why must my child only sleep for 20 minutes at a time?  Maybe because it is a sauna in his room because IT’S 75 DEGREES OUTSIDE.  Or maybe because he has a fever.  Poor kid.

Why must my poor little pooper-doodle-doo be sick?  I hate seeing him sick.

Why did I take that shitass, mother scratching, G blessed, son of a mother pacifier away??  Maybe so he could suck his hand.  Yeah, he sucks his hand.  Any advice on how to get him to stop sucking his hand now that I’ve successfully gotten rid of the sucky??  Because with it being flu season and all, all I need is him sucking his hand… surely he’ll get sick.  OH WAIT.  That’s right.  He’s already sick.

Why must my adorable son have such an adorable new haircut that I managed to get the cutest pictures of… that I would love to post and show to the Internet?  Oh but I can’t because Picasa took a big poop all over my computer so I can’t download anything.  WHY does this happen?!?  So I can write this ridiculous ranting post and you all can see what a psycho I really can be.

I Haven’t Lost it Yet

Handsome boyTwo weeks until Christmas and somehow, things are managing to fall into place!  Finally.  Woo Hoo!

First and foremost.  We are finished with the sucky!  Woo Hoo!  And let me tell you, that was so much easier than I thought it would be.  I think we had two bad nap days.  And because those days were such bad nap days, by the time bedtime rolled around somebody passed out cold the minute his head hit the crib mattress.  I think we really did it at the best time possible age-wise because of the fact that he didn’t have a word for sucky just yet… so he never “asked” for it, if you know what I mean.  Surprisingly, the fact that it was the holidays and we were so busy shopping and running around every day only seemed to help.  I suppose you could say it was a total distraction.  Well, kind of.  Anyway, go figure.

Second!  I have all (well, most, with the exception of a few little things that I can pick up at Target – but I’m just going to call it all of it) of my Christmas shopping done!!  Woo Hoo!  And most of my wrapping done!  With the exception of all of E’s gifts.  So that means I am ready to ship out my family’s gifts… and I hope they have room under their tree, because Santa Claus is coming to town!  Woo Hoo!  AND!  My Christmas cards are in the mail!  Dyno-mite!

Third!  Can you tell I’m trying not to make a list… but I just can’t help myself?  Ok, so back to the list that’s not really a list.  The playgroup!  It was a lot of fun.  We all got together today here for a quick round up then we all drove over to a park that only two of the girls had been to before… which was really nice and very close by (bonus – new playgroup and new park).  I’m sure you’re wondering what happened to our holiday playgroup bonanza… well, since it is 78 degrees here (yes, you heard me right) we decided to take advantage of the fabulous weather… which is pretty annoying if you ask me.  We were all sweating while listening to Christmas music in the car on the way there.  Then the kids flailed around at the park and got all sweaty too.  Leave it to me to see the negative in the situation.  No really, it was a lot of fun, even though we were hot and all over-dressed for 75 degrees at 10:30 am.  Anyway, this seems to be a good group – I’m really fired up that I thought to ask everyone to start getting together.  It’ll be good to have something regular with some different people/kids for Jack (and I) to get to know.  So, next week we’re planning a little holiday kiddie party at my house since we didn’t really spend much time at my house today.

That’s it for now.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

Love List #… whatever.

Here it is!  The Love List: Holiday Edition!  Woo Hoo!

  1. What a way to start the day on Christmas day… but with a delicious Zingerman’s coffee cake or three.  We were turned on to Zingerman’s by my Mom and Step-Father.  My mom sent me this last year… yum.  And after reading about the coffee cake in In Style magazine (the sour cream coffee cake is a favorite of Mario Batali), I had to place an order for myself.
  2. It’s become a tradition that I order my Dad his favorite cheese from igourmet.  I love it as much as he does and look forward to it every year.  And I have to say, we have it every year, and have for as long as I can remember… and theirs is the best I’ve ever had.  Divine.
  3. Let’s talk about divine.  This place has become a tradition in our family, as well.  For Thanksgiving we ordered (and they do online orders… which ship very well, I might add) a Grand Traverse Cherry Crumb pie, which was divine.  Also, very high on my list is the Firehouse Strawberry Rhubarb (my birthday favorite).  One thing I’m dying to try is their CHEESECAKE!
  4. I know I’ve said it a million times, but this is my favorite place for chocolate!  You know what they say about chocolate… haha!  I’m hoping that Santa brings me a little this year.
  5. Need something to keep the tiny tot warm and cozy?  Try this!  Or this!
  6. Speaking of warm and cozy… have you smelled this?  I love it.  Smells like Christmas to me.
  7. I’ve never been one for clothes on dogs, especially mine, but seriously, look at how cute this is!
  8. Or maybe you’re not so worried about freezing your toes off, like me.  And would rather be running around in these or these
  9. Seriously, though, isn’t it tradition that everyone get a sweater for Christmas?  And how could you not love one like this?  Or this?
  10. OH, I need your help, I can’t decide!  Should I make this or this this year for Christmas?

Ok, so those are a few of my favorite things this year!  Hope you’re all having a great week!

Oh, I’m picking out a thermos for you…

So, as we get closer and closer to Christmas itself, for whatever reason, I continue to take on more and more.   We took away the pacifier.  Yesterday.  And it sucked.  Well, let me back up a bit.  We’ve been pretty good about only giving it to him in moments of crisis and at naptime and bedtime.  But he was pretty sneaky and somehow managed to get it out of his crib at some point every day and then hold on to it for dear life.  So finally, last week I decided to crack down and start the process.  So I hid it immediately after he woke up and only gave it to him at naptime and bedtime.  Then yesterday I tried to take it away at naptime and caved.  Yikes.  I know, it was terrible.  So at bedtime, that was it.  But for the record, E made me do it.  Honestly, it’s going quite well.  And as I’m writing this he’s managed to wake up from a 30 minute nap and won’t go back to sleep… and guess what he wants?

On top of the whole “Operation Sucky Elimination,” I’ve managed to start a new playgroup with the girls from Bunko.  There will be five of us girls and six kids.  Plus three of the girls are pregnant.  So, this is going to get big.  But I’m excited about it and am looking forward to hosting on the 13th.  AAAGGHHHH!  What the heck am I thinking?  Like I don’t have enough to do – address all 75 of my Christmas cards when they arrive, wrap the rest of the 787 bizillion presents left to wrap, finish Christmas shopping (for the love of the infant baby Jesus in the manger, when will it ever end), and make Christmas cookies for that cookie exchange I’ve already agreed to do.  Ok, so really, I’m not all that stressed about it.  Probably because it hasn’t really sunk in just yet.  That and it just doesn’t feel like the holidays unless it’s freezing ass cold (check, well sort of) and I’m totally wigging out (this state of mind will set in quickly, I’m sure).
